Welcome to Knobology!

What is Knobology?  To a Navy pilot: ".. 'knobology', the complicated series of steps that are needed to target a precision-guided bomb."  Another way of looking at is Knobology is the science of adjusting "knobs"  to make complicated things work the way you want them to work.  With that thought in mind, this sight is designed to help you understand some fundamental concepts in the world of computer security.  That's pretty big field to take on at one leap, so we'll cover topics related to Home, Small Office / Home Office (SOHO), and ultimately some Enterprise related topics.  We'll talk about the "why" of computer security and dispel some myths. 

Computer, IT, or PC security (from whichever perspective you look at it) is very serious.  The number of attacks on the web and associated computer systems continues to grow, and the sophistication of some of the attacks is sobering.  There is no use surrendering our keyboards (and our lives) to the malicious individuals who strive to destroy us.  At the same time, we will have fun and try to make IT security understandable to those who need it most.

There are links to news, organizations important to the security industry and IT professionals, as well as commercial security software and hardware tool manufacturers.  Particular attention is paid to association and organizations in Houston, our home town, and its security requirements.
