This is the definitive CISP Certification Exam Guide. Written by Shon Harris (MCSE, CISSP), the guide is thorough but written in a "far from dry" style. Ms. Harris is an engineer with the Air Force who has extensive first hand experience with many aspects of information technology and security. She brings a passion about security (both IT and physical) as well as a sense of humor to her writing. Much of the material in this book is heady stuff; a sense of humor however dry is welcome. The CISSP Certification Exam Guide is 926 pages of facts, humor, examples, and technical material written in a very unique and useful style. If you do nothing else in preparation for the CISSP exam but study this book (and use the enclosed CD) you have an excellent chance at passing the test on the first try. The CISSP Certification Exam Guide (2nd edition) is an authoritative reference that offers complete coverage of all material on the challenging CISSP exam. Each chapter features introductory exam objectives, helpful exam tips, end-of-chapter practice questions, and numerous photographs and illustrations. Included with the book is a useful CD-ROM containing a testing engine with sample questions found only on the CD. This CISSP Certification Exam Guide not only helps you pass this challenging exam, but will also serve as an excellent on-the-job reference. In my experience, this is the exam guide that will get you through the CISSP exam on the first try. However, it is wise to prepare by taking an exam preparation course if at all possible. Those who have taken the exam know that it is grueling (4 hours) and covers the full gamut of IT security - it is often described as 10 miles wide and 10 inches deep. Trying to cover IT security in a sufficient manner to pass an exam of that nature in one book is a daunting achievement. Ms. Harris has done a great job of preparing you for the exam. Some have criticized the book for not going into substantial detail in certain sections. In truth, the book does an outstanding job of balancing the common criteria and disciplines a CISSP is required to be familiar with. Individual experts in different fields will always want to see their field covered in greater detail, but the CISSP exam is all about balance (and 10 miles wide and 10 inches deep). The book is best used not by itself, however, but in a classroom setting. I took the CISSP exam after using the book as the course of instruction in a class here in Houston. Sentigy conducts once or twice yearly exam prep courses at their Galleria office and the All In One CISSP Certification book was the course reference manual. (Additional benefit for ISSA members - the course is free to ISSA). Fortunately our instructors choose not just to regurgitate the book during class hours. Instead, we had several instructors who covered real-world security scenarios and discussed probably exam strategies from their own experiences. That's the kind of course that will help you pass the exam. Sentigy has an over 90% pass rate for those who complete the 12 weekly 4 hour sessions. If you live in Houston, I can highly recommend relying upon Sentigy for your CISSP preparation and Shon Harris's All In One CISSP Certification Exam Guide to get you through the test.
